These rain shoe covers zip on over the shoes you are already wearing, so you can walk to work, ride to class or cross a soaked car park and still arrive in your own dry shoes. No second pair in your bag and no wellies on your feet all day.

Each overshoe is ankle-high PVC with its own thick sole and a maze-pattern tread. A zipper opens down the front so your shoe slides straight in, an elastic strap with a snap holds the cover to your instep, and a cord with a toggle closes the top around your ankle or trouser leg.

Here is how it works on a wet morning. Step in, zip up, snap the strap and go. The puddles and the grit meet the cover's sole instead of yours, and at the door the covers come off, because the point is to arrive in your own shoes, dry.

We want to be straight about one thing. These are PVC covers with a front zipper, and we have not tested them as waterproof, so treat them as protection for rainy walks and rides, not for standing in deep water. The tread gives the sole a pattern, but wet tile and polished floors indoors still call for care.
