The flexible TPE band stretches over the toe and heel of most hiking boots and outdoor shoes, and the adjustable straps lock it in place so it does not slide when you climb or descend. The spikes sit under the forefoot and the heel where you need the grip. The frame stays flexible down to -40°F, and the set rolls up small enough to carry in your pack until the trail turns icy.
